About The Program

Many of the people in our program have never held a regular job or had to meet accepted production standards. Some also have mandatory activities, like counseling or parole meetings. Because of the nature of our program, we cannot operate as efficiently as a standard business. Volunteers are essential for helping us complete work orders and keeping our program running.

Beyond the workplace, volunteers are a priceless part of the rehabilitation itself. Volunteers build social skills through conversations with our program participants. Their presence helps to stimulate our workers and adds another dimension to their day. For many workers, we are their social world as well as the work world. The mentorship of volunteers also helps to build self esteem.

Baker doesn’t have to create work for volunteers and interns. With a small staff and an enormous goal, we have lots of tasks that could use your help. But it’s not just what you can do for us: it’s also what we can do for you! Participants are people who have faced hard times and are fighting for improved lives. They have fascinating stories and are truly inspirational. Working with them and helping them improve their lives is extremely rewarding. You will meet extraordinary people and make a real difference in their lives.

How You Can Help

Planned Giving

Planned Giving allows you the opportunity to guide and shape the future of a cause that is close to your heart. It also gives you the freedom to dictate how closely you would like to be involved in the giving process and when and how you would like the gift to occur. Planned giving can be tailored specifically to fit with your wishes – both present and future – and does not have to be a one size fits all process. By naming Baker Industries in your will, trust, or as a beneficiary of your IRA, retirement account, or insurance policy, you ensure that our mission will continue for years to come.

Internships

High school and college interns learn how our nonprofit works and choose their particular area of interest for a final “project”.

Employer Matching Gifts

Matching gift programs are a way for companies to support and encourage employee charitable giving. Most programs are not only generous about giving money, but are willing to donate to a broad spectrum of organization types. (Baker Industries is a Human Services organization.) Ask your Human Resources Department about Matching Gifts and maximize your impact!

Students 16 and older in groups of six or less work alongside our program participants, learning empathy, tolerance, and understanding.

Individual volunteers work alongside our program participants and interact and encourage them as you complete the tasks together. You may come in as often, or as little as needed. You may choose a regular day each week or be “on-call” as we need you. Individuals also assist our participants with resumes, online job applications, and more.

Groups of 12 or less are given our conference room for the day for their use. Beginning with an orientation at 9am, groups move to the production floor to work alongside our program participants. At lunch the group reconvenes and discusses their experiences, and then returns to the work floor until 3pm. The group learns the importance of working together, gains understanding of different work styles and abilities, and sees the reward in completing a job as a team.

Fundraising events are always more effective when there is a healthy exchange of ideas and a committee focused on a common goal. We have a variety of events that need your special touch!

What Volunteers Say

“Baker Industries is truly making a difference in the lives of many people as well as being a great asset to the business community. They not only do meaningful work but also provide meaningful employment to people in many walks of life. I was touched when I volunteered there by the caring and extra effort the staff took to be there for the employees while also ensuring that the job gets done right.”
Larry G.
“I have been a member of the board for years, and volunteer on the production floor with my children 4-5 times per year working next to the participants to help them complete the job. I get so much out of the time I spend at Baker. I am encouraged by the positive attitudes I see from those who have turned their lives around and have been given a second chance by Baker. The work ethic is taught, which is good for my children to see!”
